Khabi <3 Obituary (2015 - 2025)

It gives us physical pain to say that we had to help our Khabi, Bhulin Girl, Habanero, Wiggler, and the prettiest girl we’ve ever seen, cross the rainbow bridge today. Khabi joined our family on Valentine’s Day, 2021. All we knew at the time was that her owner had died and her foster mom had found her in pretty bad shape at Anti-Cruelty when she was 6 years old. Already considered a senior dog, she had inflamed paws, skin infections, and an ear infection—amongst other long-term issues like arthritis and hypothyroidism. The pictures the foster mom showed me were pretty graphic. But with the love and care she was given by her foster family, Khabi made a remarkable recovery and went on to catfish us on pet finder. We were hooked the minute we met her. We brought her home and watched her immediately snuggle into our couches and her new bed, not yet knowing that this dog would make it her life’s mission to prevent anyone from taking her from us with her intimidation tactics, such as her trademark lunging and loud bark. She once frightened a trainer out of our house after an hour session. She barked at every truck and every mailman, even if they were bringing her food and treats from Chewy. She loved us fiercely, and we couldn’t help but love her for it in return. Khabi liked who she liked and let you know who she didn’t like (which was pretty much everybody). All that mattered was that she was happiest with us, and also when she went to grandma’s house for endless beggin’ strips and belly rubs. She would tolerate grandpa when he made her sit for her treats and then bullied him for more. Their hearts are broken along with ours. Khabi loved being home. Sure, she chewed up the remote because daddy forgot to wipe his hands after having peanut butter and pretzels. And yeah, she pooped on the floor while looking daddy in the eye the fourth day we had her. But she knew which couches were hers, she never chewed on the furniture, and she always woke (mostly daddy) up to go outside no matter what time it was (Can you tell she was a daddy’s girl)?. Up to the very end, she wanted to walk outside on her own, and when she couldn’t Daddy carried her. She was incredibly strong and brave, despite the pain she must’ve been hiding from us. We want to thank Elmwood-Grove Animal Hospital for their understanding of Khabi’s needs and for their years of care for Khabi that allowed us to love her in life for as long as we could. We’d also like to thank her foster mom, Lindsey Latsko, and Fetching Tails Foundation for taking a chance on Khabi, who was in a rough spot at an older age, and for allowing us the chance to give her the best life we could. She was the goodest girl, and she deserved every second of it. We will see you on the other side, Princess.
