Matt Yanik

–

Gurnee, Illinois

Matt Yanik, also affectionately known as "Our First Boy," was a compassionate, adventurous, loving, and loyal presence in our lives. Born on November 12, 2023,
Matt was a beacon of joy and love for the short yet impactful time he graced our lives. His residence in Gurnee, Illinois, for three years was filled with laughter, warmth, and endless love. "The bond with a true hamster is as lasting as the ties of this earth will ever be," a quote by Konrad Lorenz, best encapsulates Matt's essence and his connection with us.

Matt’s favorite activities included running in his hamster wheel, hiding out in his favorite spots, and being the center of attention in his loving home. His inquisitive nature always led him to ask about our days, showing his deep interest in our lives. His compassion was evident in his constant need to be with his parents, Mathew Yanik and Kristina Ohalloran, showing them unconditional love and loyalty. The love Matt held for his family was palpable, and his presence was a testament to the boundless capacity of love and companionship.

Matt leaves behind a legacy of love and companionship. He is survived by his father, Mathew Yanik, his mother, Kristina Ohalloran, and friend of the family Michelle Lee. Each of us will remember Matt for his adventurous spirit, his loving nature, and his unwavering loyalty. We will forever cherish the memories of our beloved Matt, our first boy, and find comfort in knowing his spirit lives on in our hearts. "Hamsters are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." - Roger Caras.

We encourage all who knew and loved Matt to share their memories and upload photos of him to his memorial page. His story is not only told through our words but also through the moments you share. Let us remember Matt, not for his departure but for the love and joy he brought into our lives.
